Kolkata: Popular Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kolkata on Sunday (March 7, 2021) just before Prime Minister Modi’s rally at the iconic Brigade parade ground. The party’s state official, Kailash Vijayvargiya, and the BJP’s state chief, Dilip Ghosh, presented him with the party flag.
The move ends weeks of speculation about the former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader join the saffron feast. The state is subject to surveys from March to April.

Chakraborty, 70, was a Rajya Sabha MP for the TMC for two years, before resigning.
The actor had been involved in the Sharda Chit Fund scam case and was investigated by the Directorate of Enforcement for the 1.2 million rupees he had received for being the brand ambassador for a television channel financed by the group.
He reportedly returned the money to the investigative agency and resigned from the Chamber for health reasons.
Earlier, Vijayavargiya had met the star yesterday. at his residence in the town of Belgachia, the state capital, which generated much speculation.
