Dubai: Delhi Capitals (DC) have enough firepower to win their first Indian Premier League (IPL) title if players tackle some areas well and play their best game in the final against four-time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) here Tuesday, DC head coach Ricky Ponting said Monday.
“We have enough firepower [to beat MI]. If you sit down and think if there is a team that you would not like to play for, it will be us. But it’s about us, it’s about how we present ourselves, how we play, simple as that, “Ponting said.
“We’ve been far from our best in the games we’ve played against Mumbai so far, and once we sit down today and try to address some of the areas where we haven’t played well against them: our power hitting, our bowling death – if we rectify those things and play somewhere close to our best, I have no doubt that we will win, “said the former Australia captain.
Ponting admitted that it had been a backwards tournament for his team.
“I had pretty high expectations coming here. I knew we had put together a really good team of players. We got off to a great start, but things got a little shaky towards the end. But the guys have managed to play two really good. matches from their last three, and hopefully we can play our best match in the final, “he said optimistically.
“Looking back, yes, it’s been a good season, but we haven’t won anything yet, and that’s what we’re here for, we’re here to win the IPL and we’ll do our best.” he said.
Delhi Capitals, in their previous avatar reached the semi-finals in the first two editions of the IPL, in 2008 and 2009, as well as finishing third in third place in 2012. Then, like the Delhi Capitals, they finished third, again, last year.
