All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chairman Asaduddin Owaisi reacted sharply to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comment that the “Muslim brothers” have been wrong about the (Amendment) Law of Citizenship, and said that Muslims are not children who will be “wrong.”
“We are not children to be ‘wrong’. BJP didn’t mince words about what CAA + NRC were meant to do. If it is not Muslim, just remove all references to religion from the law, ”Owaisi wrote on Twitter.
“Know this: we will protest again and again until there are laws that force us to demonstrate our Indian character,” added Owaisi.
Speaking of the anti-CAA protests, Bhagwat, in his annual Dussehra address, said, “CAA does not oppose any particular religious community. But those who wanted to oppose this new law misled our Muslim brothers by spreading a false notion that it was aimed at restricting the Muslim population. Using CAA, the opportunists unleashed organized violence in the name of the protests.
Upping the ante, Owaisi attacked Congress, RJD too when he criticized Bhagwat’s comment that Muslims were wrong about the CAA. “We will protest against any law that has religion as the basis of citizenship. I also want to tell Congress, RJD and their clones: your silence during the turmoil is not forgotten. While the BJP leaders called the people of Seemanchal ‘ghuspethiye’, RJD-INC did not open its mouth once, ”wrote Owaisi.
AIMIM is competing for 24 seats in the 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections as part of the Great Secular Democratic Front.
