On Saturday, the NIA told a special court that it has evidence to show that it suspended the Mumbai police assistant inspector Sachin waze, arrested in connection with the Mukesh Ambani home bomb scare case, had “suspiciously moved to the scene of the crime” on March 4 when Mansukh Hiran, a resident of Thane, disappeared.
The NIA is investigating the death of Hiran, who disappeared days after a Scorpio vehicle he was using was found parked outside the Ambani residence in South Mumbai with jelly sticks and a threatening letter on February 25. His body was recovered from a stream in Kalwa. March 5.
The agency did not specify the location in its request filed with the court, which extended NIA custody of Waze until April 7.
“We have analyzed the IPDR (Internet Protocol Data Log), which shows that the defendant (Waze) suspiciously moved to the crime scene on March 4,” said Additional Attorney General Anil Singh, who appeared for the NIA .
The NIA has taken over the murder investigation of Hiran from the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad. Alleging Waze’s involvement In the case, the central agency has claimed that he was part of a meeting where a conspiracy was hatched to kill Hiran.
On Saturday, the NIA sought six more days in Waze’s custody, claiming it is investigating leads in the case.
Singh told the court that an account at a private bank at Versova in Andheri, co-owned by Waze and an accomplice who is also a suspect in the case, was liquidated five days after his arrest on March 13. The account had Rs 26.5 lakh. until March 8. On March 18, it was emptied along with the locker, leaving only a few documents, he added. Singh said the NIA is investigating whether any incriminating documents or items were removed from the locker.
Waze’s attorney, Aabad Ponda, denied that he had such an account and requested that the NIA provide proof of a bank account opening form, which would show his signature and photograph.
The NIA then submitted a letter containing information about the bank account for the special judge to examine, but said it could not show it to the defendant at this time.
Meanwhile, Ponda alleged that the NIA had placed evidence, including laptops, CPUs, DVRs that store CCTV images and vehicle license plates, recovered from the Mithi River last month. Ponda said the river was accessible to all and the recoveries made have been “imposed” on Waze.
The NIA also claimed that it had found a passport belonging to an unknown person during the Waze residence search.
