Two days after the Center wrote to the farmers’ unions protesting against the three farm laws inviting them to the next round of talks on their election date, the farmers protesting on Tuesday said this was not a step forward from the government but a “way to deceive farmers.” In addition, they reiterated that they do not seek amendments to the laws, but want them to be “completely rejected”.
“The government has decided its position regarding the agricultural laws that they will not be withdrawn. They published a letter stating that if farmers want amendments to these laws, they want a date and time for discussion, ”Sarwan Singh Pandher of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee said Tuesday at the Singhu border, which has become the epicenter of these protests.
“This is not a step forward from the government, but a way to deceive farmers. A normal person would think that farmers are stubborn, but the fact is that we do not seek amendments in agricultural laws, we want them to be completely rejected, “said Pandher.
After five rounds of talks, including one each on December 1, 3 and 5, the deadlock between the two sides could not be broken, the government had written to the farmers’ unions on Sunday inviting them to the sixth round, asking them that they choose a date that is “convenient” for them. The government has made clear that it will not repeal the three laws, passed in controversial circumstances in September, with the agricultural unions firmly on a full repeal. Thousands of farmers have been protesting these laws on Delhi’s borders since the last week of November, repeatedly stressing that they have come prepared “for a long way”.
The protests against the three agricultural laws entered on the 27th on Tuesday.
