NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Sunday that the passage of the three agricultural sector bills is a watershed moment in the history of Indian agriculture.

“Congratulations to our hardworking farmers on the passage of key bills in Parliament, which will ensure a complete transformation of the agricultural sector and empower millions of farmers,” Modi tweeted shortly after the Rajya Sabha passed the bill. The Lok Sabha has already passed the bill.

Modi said that for decades, the Indian farmer was limited by various limitations and harassed by middlemen. “The bills passed by Parliament free farmers from such adversities. These bills will boost efforts to double farmers’ incomes and ensure greater prosperity, ”he added.

He claimed that the agricultural sector was in desperate need of the latest technology to help hard-working farmers. “Now, with the passage of the bills, our farmers will have easier access to futuristic technology that will boost production and produce better results. This is a welcome step, ”said the prime minister.

Refuting the opposition’s accusations, the Prime Minister reiterated that the MSP will also continue in the future. “I said it before and I say it once again: the MSP system will remain. Government procurement will continue, “the prime minister said, adding:” We are here to serve our farmers. We will do everything possible to support them and guarantee a better life for future generations. ”

The prime minister also tweeted in Punjabi and assured farmers that the existing government support system for them will continue.
