Matt Kenseth will be back on the NASCAR grid soon and with him comes his brand of humor. In an old media appearance, Kenseth interrupts the group mid-interview and sits on Jimmy Johnson‘s lap.

The video is from a 2011 interview featuring Kurt Busch, Jimmy Johnson, and more. In the middle of an intense media interview, Kenseth makes an appearance and jokingly sits on Jimmy Johnson’s lap. Everyone was pleasantly surprised by Matt’s sudden appearance. And the whole interview room broke into laughter. Additionally, this was the press conference where his former teammate Kurt Busch had his temper tantrum.

Matt Kenseth will be coming out of retirement

Former NASCAR champion Kenseth will come out of retirement to go after Chip Ganassi Racing as the swap for terminated driver Kyle Larson. I’ve retired in 2017 after Joe Gibbs racing decided to hire Erik Jones for the 2018 season.

However, In April 2018, Kenseth returned with Roush Fenway Racing to drive the No. 6 car on a part-time basis, splitting the car with then-full-time driver Trevor Bayne. He ran in the Monster Energy All-Star Race with his mediocre Roush Racing car.

Kenseth, 48, is in a class of drivers like Hall of Famers Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, Richard Petty and David Pearson. He has won a Cup Series title, the rookie of the year award, and the Daytona 500.

NASCAR declared Tuesday it has allowed a waiver to make Kenseth, the 2003 Cup champion, qualified to race for the title this season, should he win a race and be in the main 30 in focuses, or qualify through focuses if 16 drivers don’t make the field by means of triumphs. NASCAR finished only four of its 36 races before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
