Former Pakistan cricketer Aamer Sohail blamed Wasim Akram for the loss of the 1992 World Cup.
Sohail said Akram was named captain at the last minute until the 2003 World Cup and that’s a big reason they didn’t win the tournament.
“It’s very simple. Put the 92 World Cup aside and talk about the 1996 World Cup. In 1995 Ramiz Raja was captain. Saleem Malik was the captain before that, he was very successful and if he could have passed a another year as captain, then Wasim Akram would not have been in the lead, “Sohail said, according to the report in Cricket pakistan.
“If you look at what happened until 2003, there was this persistence before every World Cup to eliminate the captain and put Wasim Akram in that role,” he said.
The 53-year-old former cricketer also added that Akram’s contribution was to ensure that Pakistan did not win any World Cup after 1992.
Look, Wasim Akram’s biggest contribution to Pakistan’s cricket was making sure that Pakistan doesn’t win a World Cup after 92. Imran Khan should be very grateful to him and he’s giving him the presidential award. If he [Akram] He was honest with Pakistan, we would have easily won the World Cups of 96, 99 and 2003, “said Aamer.
The former cricketer was part of the 1992 World Cup winning team and has said that this matter needs to be investigated.
“This whole drama happened for a reason. This should be investigated. The culprit behind all this should be brought to the fore, “he concluded.
