Rest in peace, Black Panther.
Actor Chadwick Boseman, who played black icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown before finding fame as the regal Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, died Friday of cancer. He was 43 years old.
Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, his family said in a statement.
A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all and brought him many of the movies he has grown to love so much, his family said in the statement. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilsons Ma Raineys Black Bottom, and several others, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King TChalla to life in Black Panther. “
Boseman had not spoken publicly about his diagnosis. However, in April this year, fans expressed concern when images of his dramatic weight loss appeared on the internet. He did a live Instagram where his slimmer body caught the eye.
As news of his death and diagnosis spread, devastated fans in hindsight understood why he looked so tired on particular shows, and how ‘Avengers: Endgame’ struck differently now that he was gone.
What also stood out was that back in 2018, when the popular gesture and ‘Wakanda Forever’ became popular, a photo of Boseman looking tired while doing so went viral and became an internet meme.
Also called ‘Wakanda sometimes’, the meme and the reason behind Boseman’s enthusiasm now evident has fans in tears.
It’s not lost on me how the internet bullied Chadwick Boseman the last two years about his appearance, he looked tired, etc. to the point where he started deleting photos while fighting for his life. You never really know what people are going through. BE KIND.

So true. Remember the “Wakanda Sometimes” meme where you seemed disinterested at a Black Panther press event. The poor thing was dealing with shit.

I keep thinking about the meme image where he is doing the wakanda salute on a red carpet, but it seems like he’s exhausted and there are whole thoughts about how his fans teased him.

Remember Twitter joked that Chadwick lost so much weight that he instead seems “Wakanda sometimes.” Now we know why it looks so thin and messy: /

Born in South Carolina, Boseman graduated from Howard University and had small television roles before his first star turn in 2013. His striking portrayal of stoic baseball star Robinson opposite Harrison Ford in 2013’s ’42’ it caught the attention of fans and critics.
Boseman died one day when Major League Baseball was celebrating Jackie Robinson’s Day.
His T’Challa character was first introduced to the blockbuster Marvel movies in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, and his salute to ‘Wakanda Forever’ resonated around the world after the release of Black Panther two years ago. .
