Kamalrukh Khan, the wife of the late musician Wajid Khan, has alleged that after their marriage, her husband’s family employed various tactics to force her to convert to Islam. She alleged that she was also threatened with divorce.

Wajid was one half of the famous Sajid-Wajid music composer duo. He died earlier this year at the age of 42.

Kamalrukh, of Parsi birth, detailed his “prejudice, suffering and discrimination” in a lengthy Instagram statement recently. He said that he fought tooth and nail against this “terrible thinking” throughout his marriage. As a result, she was ostracized by her husband’s family and considered an outcast.

Kamalrukh also said that while he has respected all religions, his resistance to converting to Islam deteriorated his relationship with Wajid. The relationship, he claimed, became toxic enough to hamper Wajid’s ability to be a father to his children.

“My dignity and self-respect did not allow me to lean back for him and his family by converting to Islam,” Kamalrukh said.

She added: “Wajid was a super talented musician and songwriter who dedicated his life to making melodies. My children and I miss him very much and wish he had spent more time with us as a family, devoid of religious prejudices, as he did while creating his melodies. We never became a family because of his and his family’s religious fanaticism. “

Kamalrukh concluded by saying that even after the death of her husband, the harassment of Wajid’s family continues.
