The model code of conduct goes into effect immediately in Bihar.
- All face-to-face meetings have been reduced to electoral meetings and campaigns.
- All polling stations will have gloves, masks, disinfectants, soap and all the medical equipment necessary to deal with medical situations.
- All polling stations will be on the ground floor to facilitate access for people with disabilities. Transportation, wheelchairs and other supplies will also be available.
Covid patients who are in quarantine will be able to cast their vote on the last day of voting, in their respective polling stations, under the supervision of the health authorities. This is in addition to the postal service option that has already been extended to them: CEC Sunil Arora
“All security protocols must be strictly followed as established by the Ministry of Health. At all times this will be supervised by both the electoral authority and the health authorities,” says Chief Elections Commissioner Sunil Arora.
For the Bihar polls, voting hours have been increased by one hour. The voting will then take place from 7 am to 6 pm, instead of the usual 5 pm: Chief Elections Commissioner

- The next assembly in Bihar must be constituted before November 29, so the calendar of elections is announced.
- To maintain a safe distance between voters, there will be more polling places.
- Voting booths will have 1,000 voters instead of 1,500
- COVID-19 has changed the way we do everything. At the beginning of the pandemic, many elections were postponed. So far, 70 countries have postponed elections. But now there is a new normal, taking precautions and following all safety rules.
- The democratic process that involves the people must continue. Slowly, across the world, steps are being taken to hold elections.
- We are here to announce the dates of the Bihar elections. It is one of the most important elections in one of the largest states of India in the immediate future.
The mandate of the 243-member Bihar legislative assembly ends on 29 November.
