Vodafone Idea attacks Jio for unfounded accusations about tower disruptions, transfers, Telecom News, ET Telecom

NEW DELHI: Vodafone Idea has teamed up with Bharti Airtel to refute allegations by competitor Reliance Jio that the two rivals’ channel partners were inciting and sparking agitators involved in disruptions of the Jio tower and promoting exits of the telco in Punjab and Haryana.

“VIL will never be part of any activity of this type that has an impact on the network facilities of any operator in the country. It seems like a fictitious conspiracy theory to implicate and cause damage to VIL,” the company spokesperson said.

Vodafone Idea also said that it strongly condemns acts of vandalism against telecommunications infrastructure that disrupt essential services.

On Saturday, ETTelecom reported that Bharti Airtel criticized Reliance Jio’s allegations in his letter to DoT Secretary Anshu Prakash.

“The unfounded accusation made by Jio that Airtel is behind the agitation by farmers to sabotage their network and force customers to switch to Airtel is simply outrageous,” Airtel regulatory director Rahul Vatts said in a letter.

“We have seen a story of Jio doing everything possible to make unsubstantiated accusations, adopt intimidation tactics and use intimidating behavior to suit his purposes and achieve his goals. This is another example,” the telecommunications company said in the letter.

The telecommunications company run by Sunil Mittal said Jio’s complaint should be dismissed “with the contempt it deserves.” “We also wish to emphatically state that not a single part of any annex supporting Jio’s complaint demonstrates any evidence that Airtel has anything to do with the current problems facing Jio.”

Jio had said that the goal of the campaign was to disrupt their services and take advantage of these disruptions to promote mobile number portability to other networks.

Airtel said that Jio’s complaint against the company was “in bad taste.”

The telecommunications company led by Sunil Mittal urged the Department of Transportation to come up with a policy to require ICR (In-Circle Roaming) in such situations of vandalism and network outages as a matter of course so that customers would never be inconvenienced.
