The actor was found dead in a hotel room Wednesday morning.
The investigation into the death of actor VJ Chithra is ongoing at the Chennai hotel where he died. The autopsy will be held at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday.
Speaking to TNM, a police officer from the Nazrathpet Police Station said the investigation team is questioning hotel staff and others at the scene in connection with the actor’s death. Chithra, who is known for her role on the soap opera Tamil Pandian Stores on the Star Vijay channel, was found dead in her hotel room early Wednesday. He was 29 years old and it is suspected prima facie that he died by suicide.
The actor checked into his room after returning from filming around 1 a.m. Wednesday. At around 3:30 a.m., the police control room received a call from the hotel staff, informing them of the death. The police have informed Chithra’s family, who also live in Chennai. She has reportedly been engaged to a businessman since August 2020 and had been hired to act in a movie.
Chithra played the role of Mullai in Pandian Stores. Several of his co-actors and industry peers expressed their shock and condolences at the actor’s untimely death.
VJ Anjana Rangan tweeted her surprise at the incident on Wednesday. “Please speak it up. Don’t let your pain take your life. Talk to someone, hold on to yourself and live life with strength and happiness. Never let anyone or anything become more precious than your life #RIPChitra,” she wrote.

Actor Venkat Rengathan, who starred with Chithra on the Pandian Stores series, called her a ‘sassy girl’. “I can’t even think of you doing something like this. Why Chithu? ”, He posted on his Instagram.
Actress Hema Rajkumar also expressed her surprise at Chithra’s death on Instagram. “You shouldn’t have done this. Why? I have no words to say, ”he wrote.
