Mumbai:
Actor Vivek Oberoi should be investigated for possible links to the drug abuse scandal being investigated by the Bureau of Narcotics Control, or NCB, Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Friday. Oberoi is a vocal supporter of the BJP who played Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a flattering biopic.
Deshmukh’s comments came after a congressional party delegation met him with the lawsuit following a raid on Oberoi’s residence by Bengaluru police on Thursday in connection with the drug scandal involving the Kannada film industry.
Police were looking for Aditya, the brother of Vivek Oberoi’s wife Priyanka Alva, who has been evading arrest after being identified as in the drug investigation by the Central Crime Section of the Bengaluru Police.
Priyanka Alva, the daughter of former Karnataka minister Jeevaraj Alva and Nandini Alva, also received a tip from the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch, according to the ANI news agency.
Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh has said: “Vivek Oberoi has been a star activist for the BJP and he, along with Sandip Ssingh, made a biopic about Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 27 languages. Bengaluru police have come here to investigate drug connections, but the NCB is not investigating this. We will ask the NCB to look into this and what connection Vivek Oberoi has to drugs should be investigated by the NCB. “
“If the OCN does not carry out an investigation properly, the Mumbai police will be asked to investigate the case,” Deshmukh said.
In recent months, the government of the Shiv Sena-Congress-Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra has countered attacks by the BJP over the ever-widening investigation into drug abuse allegations involving Bollywood in targeting members of the film industry. close to the opposition party.
The Bollywood drug scandal erupted after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June, which was picked up by the BJP and its supporters as a talking point to attack the Maharashtra government and the Mumbai police.
Countering the charges in late August, the Maharashtra Interior Minister had called for an investigation into the allegations against filmmaker Sandip Ssingh, best known for producing the biopic of Prime Minister Modi that featured Vivek Oberoi.
