Union Interior Minister Amit Shah, who is visiting West Bengal to campaign for the 2020 assembly elections1, will visit Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan in Birbhum district on Sunday, where he will pay tribute to Rabindranath Tagore, followed by an interaction with the media. The minister also plans to visit Shyambati in Birbhum, where he will have lunch with the family of a Baul singer on the second day of his two-day visit to the state.

Later, you will tour Bolpur from Hanuman Mandir on Stadium Road to Bolpur Circle. He is expected to conclude the visit with a press conference at Mohor Kutir in Birbhum and return to Delhi on Sunday.
Shah, who arrived in the state early Saturday, visited Swami Vivekananda’s birthplace in northern Calcutta later that day. He paid tribute to Vivekananda and congratulated him for bringing the culture and spirit of India to the world. He also delivered a speech at a public rally at Midnapore College Ground in Paschim Medinipur, where 11 MLA members, a member of Parliament and a former deputy joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Suvendu Adhikari was one of the MLAs who joined the party. Other MLAs who joined the BJP before the 20201 state assembly elections were Tapasi Mondal, Ashoke Dinda, Sudip Mukherjee, Saikat Panja, Shilbhadra Dutta, Dipali Biswas, Sukra Munda, Shyamapda Mukherjee, Biswajit Kundu and Banasri Maity, reported the PTI news agency.
After the demonstration concluded on Saturday night, TMC reportedly celebrated the resignation of its leaders. “We are happy today because the party is free of viruses and dishonest people. We will win the next election with an overwhelming majority, ”TMC leader Madan Mitra told PTI.
