It’s not every day that Indian captain Virat Kohli is seen playing an unorthodox shot in a cricket match, but when he did, fans were immediately reminded of Mr 360 AB from Villiers.
On Sunday, the Indian team recorded another victory in the T20I series, this time against Australia. Pursuing an uphill goal of 195, Shikhar Dhawan, Kohli and Hardik Pandya played valuable shots to bring the team home.
But what kept the momentum going during intermissions was Kohli’s practical 40 (24) that kept the Indians on the hunt. However, his energetic inputs included a shot that surprised fans for obvious reasons.
It was during one of Andrew Tye’s outings that the bowler threw a full delivery to Kohli. The latter simply moved to make room and scooped up the ball for six on a square leg. The shot reminded fans of Mr 360 AB from Villiers.
While fans and attendees were stunned to see the rare shot come out of Kohli’s bat, the skipper during the post-game conversation said, “I’ll text AB tonight, and see what you think of that. Shot . “
But what does AB think of Kohli following in the footsteps of his RCB partner? He seems to love it. The South African responded to a video clip of the India-Australia contest with emojis.
Such was the craze surrounding Kohli’s rare shot that De Villiers ended up trending in India.
Previously, fans reacted to Kohli’s six with fun and memes.
Kohli hitting that six on Tye’s knee, I’ve never seen him hit that shot, it reminds me of ABD. Remember that Kohli’s shadow practices behind AB during the IPL. Those net sessions with AB have had an impact on Kohli#AUSvIND
