The DRS currently only allows players to review lbws and decisions involving edged shots. Should its scope be extended to allow revisions for wide shots and no balls for high full shots? Virat Kohli certainly thinks so.
“I’m going to speak as captain,” Kohli said during a live Instagram chat with his teammate in India, KL Rahul, on the Puma India handle. “As captain, I would like to have the ability to review a width, which could be a wrong call, or a full waist-high throw, which could be a wrong call.
“We have historically seen how great these things can be in such a high profile tournament as IPL and T20 cricket in general.
“It’s a fast-paced game and you can miss a little margin and we’ve all seen that this is a big factor. If you lose the game by one run and you can’t review that wide, it could make a huge difference to someone’s campaign.”
Rahul agreed with Kohli. “If that rule comes in, it’s very good,” he said. “You can give a team two reviews and say you can use it for anything.”
Teams are currently only allowed one review per ticket in T20 games, including IPL.
When asked if there were any other rule changes that he would like to see, Rahul made a radical suggestion. “If someone hits a six in 100 meters, they should be given more runs,” he said. “I’ll ask my bowlers about this.”
Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Rahul’s Kings XI Punjab on Thursday in Sharjah.
