Virat Kohli named captain in ICC Men’s Decade Test Team, Ravichandran Ashwin included in the XI


ICC Decade Awards: Virat Kohli has been named captain in the ICC Decade Men’s Test Team, while Ravichandran Ashwin is the only other Indian cricketer named in the XI.

The ICC, on Sunday 27 December, announced the men’s test team of the decade and Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been named captain of the XI. Kohli made his Test debut in 2011 and took over as captain of the longest format, MS Dhoni, in 2014 in the middle of the India tour of Australia.

Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s top cricketer in trials, is the only other Indian cricketer to have made the ICC Men’s Test Team of the decade list. Ashwin, who made his test debut in 2011 and currently plays the test series in Australia, has 2404 runs and 370 wickets from 72 test matches.

The squad includes 4 test players from England, but Captain Joe Root, who was also part of the Fab Four at the time, has not found a place. Other members of the Fab Four: Kohli, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson have been included in the test team of the decade.

England’s legendary hitter Sir Alastair Cook is among the 4 England players on the list, with the other 3 being the sensational off-roader Ben Stokes and the legendary duo of Stuart Broad and James Anderson. The legendary Kumar Sangakkara, a former captain of Sri Lanka, has been named the team’s goalkeeper.
