“To be honest, the patience I learned since Anushka and I met. I was very impatient before,” Kohli said Tuesday when he and Anushka discussed their lives and careers in an online session with students on how to motivate themselves.
“The learnings we have had from each other, looking at their personality, looking at their composure in situations has really inspired me to fight. Even when things are difficult, you have to swallow your ego and keep being there in adversity, keep fighting to get out and eventually you will find a way.
“So that’s what I’ve seen her do and I’ve learned from that,” he added.
The 31-year-old also revealed that he once “howled” overnight after being rejected by his state side.
“The first time I was rejected in the state elections, I remember that it was late at night and I just cried,” said Kohli.
“I howled until three in the morning and I couldn’t believe it. As I did well, everything went perfectly. I acted until I reached that stage and was rejected.”
“And I kept asking my coach for two hours, why didn’t it happen? And I couldn’t understand it. But when there is passion and commitment, that motivation comes back to you,” he added.
Kohli, who made his debut for Delhi in 2006, burst onto the international scene in 2008. Since then, he has played 86 tests, 248 ODI and 82 T20I in which he has scored 7240, 11867 and 2794 races respectively and is now among the Game greats.
He, like other cricketers, is currently enjoying the forced breakup with his family amid the national blockade in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.
