Uttar Pradesh doctor Kafeel Khan has urged the state government to restore his job so that he can serve the nation as a doctor after he was released from Mathura jail on Tuesday night, eight months after he was arrested. for making alleged hate speech during an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest action at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in December last year.
Dr. Kafeel, an assistant professor at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, was suspended after being charged with medical malpractice in an oxygen shortage tragedy case in August 2017 that resulted in the death of 60 children. Kafeel spent about nine months in jail in connection with the case before the Allahabad High Court granted him bail on April 25, 2018, which noted that there was no evidence of medical malpractice against the doctor.
However, Kafeel was later arrested in the AMU hate speech case.
“ They kept me in jail for no crime committed by me and they framed me in a false, fictitious and baseless case. They did not even provide me with food and water for five days, reportedly by Dr. Kafeel Khan after being released from jail on Tuesday night.

Delving into recent suspect encounters in Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Kafeel Khan thanked the STF (special task force) for not killing him in an encounter while bringing him in from Mumbai, where he was arrested eight months ago. He also thanked the judiciary for ordering his release.
Justice Court Govind Mathur and Allahabad High Court Judge Saumitra Dayal Singh ruled that the administration erred in invoking the National Security Act (NSA) against Dr. Kafeel. The court order came after hearing a request from Khan’s mother, Nuzhat Parveen, who alleged that Dr. Kafeel was the target of the state administration.

Earlier this year, Kafeel received a clean note on two of four counts in a departmental investigation into his role in the 2018 tragedy. After being exonerated, Kafeel has been demanding the revocation of his suspension and has filed a petition for the same in court.
