NEW DELHI: A week after leaving Congress, Telugu actress Vijayashanti today formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp).
The actress turned politician had met the Minister of the Interior of the Union Amit shah on Sunday, after which the party leader, G Vivek Venkatswamy, announced to the media of his joining the party.
“Today, under the leadership of G Kishan Reddy, Vijayashanti ji met with Interior Minister Amit Shah. She will be formally incorporated into the BJP in the presence of the head of the BJP, JP Nadda. Vijayashanti ji worked a lot in Telangana, but the first State Minister KC Rao marked everyone, “Venkatswamy told reporters on Sunday.
“The BJP will definitely win in the Telangana Assembly next time. Vijayashanti ji will be at the forefront for the development of the party in the state,” he added.
Vijayashanti began his political career with BJP. However, he later joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and then made an entry into Congress in 2014 prior to the formation of Telangana.
BJP made significant progress in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), as it won 48 seats, seven fewer than the ruling TRS, which emerged as the largest party to win 55 seats.
BJP’s strong performance came on the heels of its victory last month in the Dubbaka assembly seat. The party had taken the seat from the ruler TRS.
