Fugitive Indian businessman Vijay Mallya lost his application for leave to appeal to the UK Supreme Court today, news agencies reported. UK Home Secretary Priti Patel will receive a final call to formally certify the court order for Vijay Mallya to be extradited to India within 28 days.
The 64-year-old businessman had 14 days to submit this request to apply for permission to move to the higher court in the High Court ruling of April 20, which dismissed his appeal against an extradition order from the Westminster Magistrates Court certified by the UK Home Secretary.
The last decision will now be re-certified and the extradition process must begin within 28 days.
Earlier today, Mallya had urged the government to unconditionally accept his offer to repay bank loans and to close the case against him. “Congratulations to the government on a Covid-19 aid package. You can print as much money as you want BUT if a small taxpayer like me offering a 100 percent repayment of state-owned bank loans is consistently ignored? Please take my money unconditionally and close, “Mallya had tweeted.
Vijay Mallya, promoter of the defunct Kingfisher Airlines is wanted in India for alleged fraud and estimated money laundering charges ₹9 billion rupees. He was arrested by the UK authorities on April 20, 2017 at the request of the Indian investigative agencies.
