Vice President Venkaiah Naidu Tests Positive for Coronavirus Infection, Currently Asymptomatic

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, who underwent a routine COVID-19 test Tuesday morning, tested positive for the coronavirus infection. He has been advised home quarantine as he is asymptomatic and in good health, his office said in a statement.

The vice president’s wife, Usha Naidu, tested negative and is in isolation.

Naidu, also President of Rajya Sabha, recently chaired the monsoon session of Parliament. The session, which began on September 14, concluded on September 23, eight days before the scheduled end, as at least 25 lawmakers tested positive for coronavirus.

In mandatory tests carried out before the start of the monsoon session, 17 MPs from Lok Sabha and nine from Rajya Sabha were found infected.

Political leaders, including Nitin Gadkari, N Chandrababu Naidu, Nirmala Sitharaman and Dharmendra Pradhan, wished the vice president a speedy recovery.

Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman said: “My prayers for your complete and speedy recovery, @VPSecretariat, Shri. @MVenkaiahNaidu garu.”

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan prayed for Naidu’s good health as he joined the other leaders in wishing the vice president a speedy recovery.
