Vi (Vodafone Idea) is launching its anticipated Wi-Fi calling service in India, according to a report. The new service is said to be initially limited to a couple of circles. The operator has been testing its Wi-Fi calling service for some time. In addition to the reported launch of Wi-Fi calling, Vi has brought in the new Rs. 59 and Rs. 65 prepaid recharge plans for select circles. New additions are listed as bundled plans on the telecom operator’s MyVi.in website.
According to a report by Telecom Talk, Vi’s Wi-Fi Calling launch was confirmed by a customer service official while responding to a query from a user on Twitter. The official reportedly sent a message to the user saying that the service is applicable to the Maharashtra and Goa circles as well as those in Kolkata. It has started rolling out as of Tuesday, according to the message quoted by the telecom-focused blog.
Gadgets 360 has reached out to Vi for clarity on the launch and will update this space when the operator responds.
Reports from the past suggest that Vi has been testing its Wi-Fi calling service for some time. The company has apparently started testing the service together with Airtel and Jio, but while the other two networks already have it, Vi has yet to announce the details of its implementation.
The new service will allow users to switch to Wi-Fi calling when they are in a congested area on the network. May require a software update on the user’s phone to add support for voice calls over Wi-Fi.
New charging plans Vi
Along with the implementation of the new service, Vi has brought in the Rs. 59 and Rs. 65 prepaid recharge plans, as reported by OnlyTech. The new plans are initially listed on the MyVi.in site for Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa circles.
While the Rs. The 59 Vi plan offers 30 minutes of voice calls, the Rs. 65 plan brings Rs. 52 of talk time and 100 MB of data. Both are listed as bundled plans and are available with a 28-day service validity.
Vi had Rs. 59 and Rs. 65 prepaid plans also before, but with a different list of benefits and validity.
