Veteran actress and Marathi theater personality Ashalata Wabgaonkar died at the age of 79 after battling COVID-19. Actress Renuka Shahane shared a tribute to the late actress in a tweet written in Marathi, which roughly translates to this heartbreaking message: “Today has been a sad day. COVID-19 took on a very beautiful life. Ashalata Tai merged into the infinite. Extremely kind, caring, sensitive, great artist. Peace be to the soul of Ashalata Tai, who has always blessed me, calling me ‘Baby’. A sincere tribute. ” Shabana Azmi, who worked with Ashalata Wabgaonkar in the 1980 film Apne Paraye, tweeted: “Deeply sad. I had the pleasure of working with Ashalata Ji at Basu Chatterjee’s Apne Paraye and it was a pleasure working with her. Condolences to the family. “

Former Goan Chief Minister Digambar Kamat also shared a tweet of condolence for Ashalata Wabgaonkar, who was from Goa.

According to various reports, Ashalata Wabgaonkar was diagnosed with COVID-19 while filming for the Marathi TV show. Aai Kalubai in the city of Maharashtrian Satara last week. She was reportedly admitted to a private hospital in Satara last weekend, where she died on Tuesday. Another 20 members of the program also reportedly tested positive.
Ashalata Wabgaonkar appeared in more than 100 films in Hindi and Marathi. Her legacy as a theater artist will be remembered for works in Marathi such as Mahananda, Varyavarchi Varaat, Guntata Hridhya He and Chinna. He starred in several acclaimed Bollywood films, some of which are Ahista Ahista, Woh Saat Din, Ankush, Namak Halaal, Shaukeen and Yaadon Ki Kasam . Some of his best known Marathi movies include Vahinichi Maya, Umbartha, Navri Mile Navryala and Sutradhar.
Ashalata Wabgaokar is also the author of the book Gard Sabhowati, which documented her career as an actress in the film industry.
