Very poor air in parts of northwestern India; Heavy rain warning for Telangana, the Andhra coast

Many parts of northwestern India have been affected by poor air quality, while some also experience very poor air, including Ballabgarh in Haryana with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 302; Bhiwandi in Rajasthan with an AQI reading of 306 and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh (UP) with an AQI reading of 323 on Monday morning.

The air of the national capital belonged to the poor category on Monday at 7 in the morning, according to AQI 231.

The National Capital Region of Delhi (NCR) is likely to be classified as poor to very poor on Monday due to extensive stubble fires in neighboring Punjab and Haryana, which have been further exacerbated by northwesterly winds, according to the air quality early warning system of the Ministry of the Union of Earth Sciences (MoES).

In an unrelated development, an area of low pressure is likely to form over the center of the Bay of Bengal on Monday, bringing widespread and heavy rains to many parts of mainland India. It is likely to become more marked over the next 24 hours.

An east-west trough is likely to develop from the east-central Bay of Bengal to the Karnataka coast through the west-central Bay of Bengal and mainland India on Tuesday. Weather conditions are likely to persist for the next three to four days.

Under the influence of these weather systems, isolated heavy rains are likely to occur in southern India, except Kerala and Lakshadweep, for the next five days.

Heavy to very heavy rains are likely in many places over Telangana and Tamil Nadu on Monday. The coast of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and the coast and inland of northern Karnataka may experience a similar weather condition on Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

The monsoon retreat line passes through Faizabad, Fatehpur, Nowgong, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Vallabh Vidyanagar and Porbandar. Due to the consecutive development of low pressure areas over the Bay of Bengal and the rains in many parts of the country, the withdrawal of the monsoon is delayed.

Usually the monsoon retreats completely on October 15, which is followed by the onset of the northeast monsoon.
