CHENNAI: Chennai city police detained about 100 BJP workers who tried to leave the city to Tiruttani in separate vehicles to participate in the party Vetrivel Yatra it was scheduled to start from there.
The government of Tamil Nadu has not given permission for the yatra.

Police personnel deployed in Nazerethpet, on the outskirts of the city, stopped the vehicles of BJP workers. Party officials argued with the police.
Police allowed the vehicles of BJP state president L Murugan and 20 other people to go ahead while others returned to the city. No case was registered.
BJP officials said the Union Minister of State for the Interior G Kishan Reddy it would mark Tiruttani’s yatra.
At least 500 policemen were deployed in Tiruttani to prevent BJP workers from gathering in large groups. Tiruvallur district police have reserved three marriage rooms to detain BJP workers.
