The Uttarakhand government has allowed most stores selling products to open in nine of the 13 total districts since Sunday. The permit does not apply to liquor stores and other commercial establishments that offer services such as salons and beauty salons. The decision was made after a meeting of officials chaired by Prime Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.

A state government official familiar with the development said on condition of anonymity: “During the meeting, it was decided that the nine districts of the mountainous areas of the state that until now have not seen cases of COVID-19 will open their stores since Sunday according to the guidelines issued by the Center. They will open from 7 am to 6 pm at night while maintaining the necessary precautions such as social distancing. “

The official added: “However, the liquor stores and haircut salons will remain closed. In the state’s four main districts, including Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital and US Nagar, which have witnessed cases of COVID-19, there will be no relaxation. Only essential goods stores will open there according to the status quo, from 7 am to 1 pm “

The official, however, said district magistrates from the four aforementioned districts can make a necessary decision on any relaxation in certain areas after evaluating the situation.

Earlier Saturday, CM Rawat had announced the reopening of non-Covid hospitals in all nine hill districts starting Sunday to treat people with other illnesses.

“Hospitals there would treat patients with various ailments as they used to do before closing. As the diarrhea and dengue season is also close, these hospitals will be necessary to treat these diseases in the coming days, “he said.
