Dehradun:
Recognizing journalists as people who work 24 hours a day as front-line people in the midst of the pandemic, the Uttarakhand government today announced vaccination for them, with no age limit.
“Journalists have supported the fight against the pandemic as front-line workers for communication, spreading awareness and giving correct information,” the Uttarakhand government said in a statement.
“Since the blockade began and the country gradually eased it, even the officials and employees of the information department have been constantly involved in communicating and raising awareness about the correct information in tasks related to the fight against COVID-19,” said the government.
Uttarakhand’s announcement to include journalists comes weeks after Punjab said that judges, lawyers, teachers and journalists can now receive the coronavirus vaccine in the Ludhiana district.
Adding new categories to the vaccination campaign expands the group of people who are eligible for the vaccine. From those over 60 and those between 45 and 60 with comorbidities to those over 45 without any disease, the vaccination network has expanded rapidly, although there is concern of a second wave of COVID-19 in several states such as Maharashtra. and Gujarat.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat ordered that arrangements be made to vaccinate journalists, officials and information department workers without any age limit, according to the statement.
Rawat on Friday called on officials to focus on testing and treating COVID-19 patients in addition to bringing vaccination facilities to rural areas. “Uttarakhand should become a 100 percent vaccination state,” said the Chief Minister.
The chief minister, working from isolation after testing positive on March 22, called on officials to intensify testing amid the current Kumbh Mela in Haridwar.
