LUCK: The upcoming Jewar International Airport will be formally known as Noida International Green Field Airport.
The airport will have a logo comprising the image of ‘sarus’ (stork), the state bird of Uttar Pradesh.
On Thursday, CM Yogi Adityanath approved the name, design and logo of the long-awaited airport that he intends to design on the lines of London, Moscow and Milan airports.
Yogi’s assent came after a meeting with officials from Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) and the civil aviation department. By projecting the airport as world-class, Yogi said his government will spare no effort to put the project on the world map.
According to the proposal presented by YIAPL and the civil aviation department, the airport will be developed in four phases. In the first phase, it would serve 12 million passengers, which would increase to 70 million in 2050. Initially, the airport would have two runways that would be expanded to five in subsequent phases.
Yogi said that the Noida International Airport It will give a boost to industrial development and will subsequently lead to the creation of employment opportunities, promotion of exports, streamlining of air traffic and greater tourist activity. Jewar Airport will be an alternative to IGI Airport in New Delhi. Calling the aviation sector a multi-dimensional growth medium, Yogi said it would also boost the state’s economic development.
Civil aviation director Surendra Singh said concessionaire YIAPL submitted the project’s master plan to Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) on December 4. The plan has been sent to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation for formal approval.
In accordance with the conditions established in the concession contract, the UP government would execute the support contract before April 5, 2021. For this, a letter was sent to the concessionaire. Singh said the civil aviation department will complete the necessary paperwork by the end of this month. He said Gautam Budh Nagar’s administration has acquired 1,334 hectares of land for the project. About 48 hectares of land have been acquired to settle people displaced by the land acquisition campaign. Here, the Yamuna Highway and Industrial Development Authority has started development work.
Singh said GB Nagar’s management has already acquired land for two tracks, while another 3,418 hectares will need to be purchased for three additional tracks.
It is also proposed to link Jewar airport to the high-speed rail project connecting Delhi to Varanasi. At the same time, RITES has carried out a study to connect it with the IGI airport. There are also plans to connect Jewar airport with the proposed Delhi-Mumbai highway. To do this, the state government is acquiring land for the 8.5km stretch of the highway that passes through UP. It is also proposed to connect the airport with the metro in Pari Chowk (Greater Noida). The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has completed the feasibility study while the funding pattern is being considered.
