Cricket Australia is dealing with financial problems amid the coronavirus crisis, much to the surprise of star hitter Usman Khawaja.

Batsman Usman Khawaja, who was snubbed by Cricket Australia in announcing core contracts, says he was surprised to learn of the financial crisis facing the Board and attributed it to “mismanagement.”
Former captains Michael Clarke and Allan Border had criticized Cricket Australia for dropping Khwaja, who felt he is still one of the top six hitters in the world.
“I was very shocked. Because I knew our revenue projections were still very high and I think they are still, depending on what happens with the Indian series,” Khawaja was quoted by Fox Sports.
“It’s a bit confusing. I don’t have all the financial information in front of me, but it seems like it’s more of a cash flow problem right now. Obviously there’s a little bit of mismanagement somewhere, with the wallet and putting in a lot of money in the stock market.
“For me, that’s Business 101. Making sure I have enough cash reserves if the trash hits the fan. So I’m a little disappointed on that front … but what’s been done is done, so it’s our responsibility like CA and ACA to work through this. “
Khawaja said he was still good with the bat in his hand and that “age is just a number.”
“My game against spin has been one of the best in the county. Bar Steve Steve, who is an absolute genius. But the most important thing is scoring runs.”
