Use of PM’s photo on gasoline pump posters violates voting code, must be removed: ECI official | West Bengal Election News

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India ordered gasoline pump distributors and other agencies in the ballot-linked states to remove billboards with photographs of PM Modi within 72 hours, according to an official.
“The use of the prime minister’s photograph on such billboards violates the Model Code of Conduct (MCC),” said the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) official.
Firhad Hakim, leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and minister of state, had today petitioned the EC against the use of PM’s photo on billboards and also on Covid vaccination certificates.

The ruling party in West Bengal had called it a “blatant misuse of official machinery”.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the star activist of the BJP in the elections of this assembly. As a politician, he seeks support for his party during rallies. In this situation, using his photo on vaccination certificates is similar to influencing voters. and violating the model code of conduct, “the Trinamool had said in its plea.
However, the West Bengal BJP chief had dismissed Trinamool’s charges as “unfounded”.
“If a government project starts before an election is declared, it can continue in the same way. On the gas pumps, there are billboards for various Center wellness projects. These are placed on private land,” Ghosh had stated. .
The Trinamool Congress of Mamata Banerjee is locked in a fierce electoral battle with the BJP in West Bengal.
The BJP has done everything possible to dethrone Mamata from the CM chair in the next assembly elections.
