Ranked 4th in men’s tennis, Daniil Medvedev was seen criticizing the referees quite early in the US Open semi-final game against Dominic Thiem on Friday, September 11. Medvedev, so out of control with his anger, declared that “US Open is a joke.”
Early in the game, during the first set when Medvedev trailed 3-2 and on the receiving end of another break point, Daniil Medvedev’s long outburst was seen when a linesman missed the Russian’s first serve. As soon as Thiem returned to his service and the referee failed to call for service, Medvedev angrily launched his next shot at the net. It was only worse when the No. 3 seed at the US Open, Medvedev totally lost his cool and lashed out at the chair umpire after the referee denied the player challenging the decision. In fact, what was a surprise was that Medvedev violated a code by crossing the nests to the other side to pinpoint exactly where the ball had landed.
While the linesman was determined not to let him challenge, Medvedev referred the complaint to match supervisor Wayne McKewen at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
“He gave me a code [ for violation]. What did I do to get a code ?, Medvedev was heard asking.
“The US Open is a joke. Oh Im sorry. I think I killed someone, right? “I am very sorry for crossing the net. My sincere apologies for crossing the net. Oh my God, ”he lashed out even more.
“You sit near the court all the time, you don’t do anything. You do nothing, ”Medvedev criticized the party supervisor.
