The US today said border disputes with China in Ladakh or in the south China Sea — are a “reminder of the threat of China”. The strong statement by Alice Wells, the Outgoing assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, came days after several cases of Chinese incursion by land and air, one of which led to a face-off between India and Chinese troops.
“Provocation and disturbing that the behavior of China, which raises questions about how China intends to use its growing power,” the US said.
“That’s why you’ve seen a mobilization of like-minded nations if it is in the ASEAN, or through other diplomatic groupings such as the trilateral, with the united states, Japan, and India, or the Quad-conversations at the global level about how we can reinforce the principles of the post-World War II global order that was supported free and open trade, that lifted all boats, including the Chinese boat”, added Alice Wells.
In the last few weeks, the reinforcement of troops on the border was made after the reports of China pitching tents near river Galwan — 1962 flash point that has seen the aggression in the last days, and the increase of construction activities.
Earlier this month, India and China, of soldiers that were involved in a face-to-face on the banks of the high-altitude Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh and North Sikkim. Several Indian and Chinese soldiers were injured in the incident in Ladakh.
