Meanwhile, Biden claimed that the election results may not be known until Wednesday morning or later (US local time), but he is optimistic about the outcome.
Donald Trump won Florida, a vital decisive state with 29 electoral votes, and Ohio with 18 electoral votes, Texas having 38 electoral votes. Biden is projected to win Arizona, an undecided state with 11 electoral votes. President Trump’s victories in the changing states of Florida, Ohio, and Texas have made the results in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania absolutely crucial, even as these states have yet to be counted. Michigan has 14 electoral votes, Pennsylvania has 18 and Wisconsin has 8 seats, according to a Reuters report.
In addition to electing the next president, the United States is also voting for the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate has 100 members and is the Rajya Sabha-like upper house of the Parliament of India. The House of Representatives has 435 members and is the lower house like that of Lok Sabha. The Senate race looks like a close fight, but Republicans are ahead in the House of Representatives.
According to experts, North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania are key to election results, even as the tough battle rages in Florida and Texas. Current President Trump must win North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania to retain power, while Biden can win the presidency with a victory in any of these states.
The United States has already witnessed the first record-breaking polls due to fear of a coronavirus pandemic. The United States is on track to witness more than 160 million votes cast in the 2020 U.S. presidential election, with a turnout rate of about 67 percent. This is higher than what the United States has witnessed in more than 100 years.
