The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) informed the Supreme Court on Monday that it is impossible to postpone the 2020 Civil Services Preliminary as all logistical arrangements have already been made. A bench of three judges headed by Judge AM Khanwilkar asked UPSC to put this support in an affidavit along with the arrangements made. The matter will be known on Wednesday.
The high court was hearing a guilty plea filed by some UPSC civil service applicants seeking postponement of the 2020 preliminary examination amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2020 UPSC Civil Services Exam is scheduled for October 4.
At the last hearing, the higher court had asked attorney Alakh Alok Srivastava, who was appearing on behalf of the petitioners, to deliver a copy of the petition to the UPSC and the Center.
Around 6 lakh of applicants are expected to appear at the UPSC preliminaries this year, which will be held at various centers in 72 cities across the country.
The exam was scheduled for May 31, but had to be postponed due to Covid-19. On June 5, UPSC released the revised exam schedule, setting October 4 as the new date to take the exam.
