The Union Public Service Commission today concluded the UPSC 2020 Preliminary Examination. The exam was conducted in two time slots: Test I was carried out from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and Test II was carried out from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. . The IAS I Document consists of 100 questions of 2 points each in the MCQ objective format. This is not a grade by nature, but it is very important in meeting the cut marks. Crop marks or minimum marks range from 90 to 110. Every year the mark cut varies and this variation in crop marks is due to the dynamic nature of the paper. This year, around 6 lakh of students had registered for the UPSC Prelims exam. The UPSC exam was performed in accordance with the SOPs issued by the Ministry of Health. Candidates were allowed to bring the following items into the exam room: face mask, hand sanitizer, water bottle, photo ID, black pen, admission card, and simple wristwatch. All applicants had to follow the COVID19 standard of ‘social distancing as well as’ personal hygiene’ within examination rooms / rooms. The 2020 UPSC Civil Services Exam was held after much controversy to postpone exams amid the pandemic. However, in the Supreme Court hearing on September 30 on the conduct of the preliminary examination of UPSC, the supreme court ordered UPSC to conduct the examination and granted requests for age limit and last attempt considerations. In the order, it has been mentioned that an additional attempt is being sought for those who are making the last attempt, as they may not be able to present due to the pandemic. In addition, the Commission had said that age concessions can only be made for those who are on their last attempt and / or are about to cross the age limit and cannot be made available to others to whom the High Court.
