More than 50% of the candidates skipped the 2020 Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) Civil Services (preliminary) exam held in the UP capital on Sunday amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
A total of 43,921 candidates registered for the exam on both shifts respectively. In the morning shift, 21,790 (49.61%) candidates took the exam while 22,131 stayed out. In the second round, 21,607 (49.19%) candidates took the exam and 22,314 were left out, according to data published by the office of the district magistrate Abhishek Prakash.
The candidates gave mixed reactions on the level of difficulty of the exam. Some said the questionnaire was easy, while others found it difficult.
Anil Ranjan, a resident of Azamgarh, said: “It was my first try and I found the role easy. The first article was on general studies, current affairs and the second article was on reasoning and mathematics. They were both easy. ”
Ranjan had arrived in Lucknow the day before the exam. He stayed with a friend in town and used public transportation to get downtown. “It wasn’t sure, but what can I do … I had to show up for the exam,” he said.
Another candidate, Shubhan Singh, found the article difficult, while Deepak said the first article was easy and the second long.
“I think everyone who took the UPSC exam was aware of the health risks and we are mature enough to follow the precautions prescribed by the authorities,” said one candidate.
District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash visited some examination centers to see the progress of the test. He asked the proctors to follow all Covid guidelines during the exam to ensure the safety of the candidates.
Upon arriving at Centennial Intermediate College in Golaganj, the DM inspected the exam room and the monitoring room. He said: “With the help of CCTV cameras, intelligent monitoring of the examination was carried out. The candidates were sitting at a distance from each other. ”
He also visited Shia Inter College and UPSC Bhawan in Aliganj to observe the progress of the exam.
