UP Senior Police Say Hathras Wife Was Not Raped, Cites Forensic Report

Citing a report from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said on Thursday the 19-year-old Hathras woman who succumbed to the wounds at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi she was not raped.

The senior Uttar Pradesh police officer also said that the Dalit woman, who had been assaulted by four upper-caste men in Hathras district on September 14, died of a neck injury and the resulting trauma, according to a post-mortem report from Safdarjung Hospital. Follow updates

“The FSL report has also arrived. It clearly says that the samples did not have sperm. Make it clear that there was no rape or gang rape, ”Kumar said. “Even the woman in her statement to the police did not mention the rape, but only spoke of ‘marpeet’ (beatings),” he said.

Emphasizing that some people “distorted the facts” in the media, Kumar said it was done to upset social harmony and create caste violence.

“In order to disturb social harmony and create caste violence, some people misrepresented the facts. The police took immediate action in the case and now we will identify those who tried to disturb social harmony and create caste violence, ”said the ADG.

With her tongue cut off by the attackers and severely injured her spinal cord and neck, leaving her paralyzed in all four limbs, the 19-year-old died Tuesday, sparking widespread national outrage and opposition protests. Reports from her rushed cremation without involving the victim’s family allegedly under police pressure, he has also led the opposition to question the public order situation in the UP.

An initial medical report on the woman confirmed strangulation and assault. A medical report from doctors at the Aligarh hospital had found “inconclusive” rape evidence.

On Wednesday, following a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath formed a three-member SIT to investigate the incident and asked him to submit a report within seven days.

The state also said it would establish a fast-track court to hear the case. In addition, he announced compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the victim’s family, a government job for a family member and a house in the city of Hathras under the State Agency for Urban Development.
