In a disgusting incident, a father of five daughters here allegedly tore open his pregnant wife’s stomach on Saturday night, supposedly to find out if she was going to give birth to a son this time.
Pannalal cut the stomach of his wife, aged around 35, with a sharp-edged weapon in the town of Nekpur below the area of the Civil Lines police station, seriously injuring her, SP (city) Pravin Singh Chauhan said.
An FIR has been filed and the husband has been arrested, the SP said, adding that the reasons for the crime are being investigated.
The woman’s family, who was rushed to a Bareilly hospital in serious condition, alleged that Pannalal wanted a child and committed the crime to find out whether it was a male or female fetus.
The locals immediately took the woman to the district hospital from where she was sent to Bareilly hospital in serious condition.
