Siddharth Nath Singh also gave some details of the ordinance to ANI, saying: “The ordinance provides for a prison term of 1 to 5 years with a penalty of 15,000 rupees for forced religious conversion. For the conversions of minors and women from the SC / SC community, there will be a prison sentence of 3 to 10 years with a fine of 25,000 rupees. “
He also added that if a person wishes to marry after converting to any other religion, he must obtain the permission of the appropriate district judge two months before the marriage.
The Economic Times had reported on Saturday, November 21, that the new law introduced in UP would do the same, making conversion for the good of marriage illegal. Any marriage celebrated after such conversion may be declared null and void based on a complaint from a third party, including the victim’s family.
An investigation can be started based solely on the fact that a woman has been converted only for the purpose of marriage.
There is no actual reference to the term ‘love jihad’ in this ordinance, according to reports.
