Unprecedented harassment at the airport due to PM’s trip: Adhir writes to the CEC

Congressional Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote on Saturday to Chief Elections Commissioner Sunil Arora saying that he was subjected to “unprecedented harassment” at Kolkata airport, as he was “detained for hours” due to the arrival of the first Minister Narendra Modi to the terminal.

The congressional leader said he had to cancel a political program because of the delay. “I have been subjected to unprecedented harassment that resulted (in) the cancellation of (a) previously planned election program on the date, as I was proceeding in a vehicle to the helicopter to fly out (of) Dumdum Airport on a program politician, my vehicle was stopped for hours. Hours later I learned that the SPG stopped all movements because the PM was going to land to attend a political program, although the helicopter parking route and the aircraft taxi route is a totally different route, ”he wrote.

Chowdhury, the congressional leader in Lok Sabha and the chairman of the party’s West Bengal unit, was at the airport to take a helicopter to Basirhat for a campaign rally.

He said that while “security for any official purpose is supposed to be the prime minister’s concern”, it should not be at “cost and harassment from another political leader” when traveling to attend a political program.

“In this delay, I was harassed and had to cancel a previously planned political program. I don’t know if cutting off all other moves is in order for the prime minister’s political program, ”Chowdhury wrote.

Chowdhury also asked if VVIP planes used for overseas visits can be used to attend political rallies.
