One day after a bitter war of words broke out between Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari over the reopening of religious sites in the state, the Maharashtra government allowed the subway to resume its operations of staggered from October 15. Trade shows will also be allowed in the state starting Thursday. With the necessary Covid-19 precautions, the operation of public and government libraries will be allowed. Shops and markets will be open from 9 am to 9 pm. Starting tomorrow local weekly markets will be allowed, including animal markets. However, no decision has yet been made on the temples.

External domestic passengers arriving in Maharashtra, whether on flights or trains, will not be stamped upon arrival starting October 15.
The Maharashtra government led by Maha Vikas Aghadi is following its own unlocking pattern, as the state has the highest number of Covid-19 cases. Long after restaurants opened in other states, Maharashtra allowed restaurants and bars to operate from October 5. Religious sites, movie theaters and swimming pools are not yet open in the state. However, local Mumbai trains are running and with higher capacity.
Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari raised doubts about Thackeray’s religious beliefs and asked if he had become “secular” by not allowing the reopening of temples in the state. On Wednesday, BJP priests and workers held a protest outside the Shirdi temple, demanding the immediate reopening of all religious sites in the state.
