Unlock 4: New Covid-19 Restrictions Imposed in These Cities


Various state and local administrations have reimposed restrictions in light of the growing number of Covid-19 cases even as the country is in the last leg of Unlocking 4, which began on September 1.

Here is a complete list of cities / districts that are subject to restrictions in September. Some restrictions have been recently imposed, while others have been extended.

Raipur: The local administration announced a new closure in Raipur on Saturday, from September 21 at 9 p.m. to midnight on September 28, as Chhatisgarh is witnessing an increase in the number of new cases.

“The Raipur district has so far reported more than 26,000 COVID-19 cases and between 900 and 1,000 cases are recorded daily. To break the chain of transmission, it has become necessary to declare the entire district as a containment zone. The borders between districts in Raipur will remain sealed during this period, ”the order said.

The blockade was also imposed on seven urban bodies in Bilaspur from the morning of September 22 until midnight on September 28, while it will be between September 20 and 30 in six areas, including Durg and Bhilai.

Chhattisgarh’s COVID-19 count was 84,234 as of Saturday.

Jaipur: It is not a shutdown, but the Rajasthan government has decided to impose Section 144 of the CrpC in 11 districts of the state, including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Udaipur, Sikar, Pali and Nagaur.

Aizawl: The Mizoram government extended the partial closure in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area until September 20, to facilitate and accelerate the process of contact tracing and collecting samples from people who came into contact with positive patients.

Chandigarh: All municipalities in Punjab are observing Sunday closings throughout September. In August, the state was observing weekend closings on Saturdays and Sundays.

Mumbai:Section 144 has been extended in Mumbai until September 30, although no new restrictions have been imposed.

Noida: Section 144 was extended until September 30. It does not include any new restrictions.

Section 144 versus confinement

While the lockdown prohibits various activities, Section 144 prohibits a gathering of more than four people without permission.

Can local administration impose restrictions on Unlock 4?

The MHA (Ministry of the Interior) order pertaining to Unlocking 4 said that state / UT governments will not impose any local (state / district / subdivision / city) closures, outside of containment zones, without prior consultation with the Center.

No national blockade

Amid rumors that a second national blockade will be imposed as of September 25, the Center has clarified that there is no such proposal on the table. There will be no blockade at the national level.
