Most of the non-agricultural universities in Maharashtra have asked the state government to request the UGC to allow the completion of senior exams and the announcement of results before October 31, Minister of State Uday said on Monday. Samant.

There are 13 non-agricultural universities in the state.

Among them, Amravati University and Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) have suggested taking exams and declaring results before November 10, said Samant, who heads the department of Technical and Higher Education.

All universities also agreed that it was not possible for students to leave their homes to take an exam given the threat of COVID-19, Samant said.

He said the examination mode will be declared on Wednesday.

The exams can be taken in the first week of October and will be of lower qualification, said the minister.

A total of 7,62,962 students will sit for the year’s final exams at all universities, he said.

“Amravati University and Yashwantrao Chavan Open University have said that an application be made to the UGC (University Scholarship Commission) to take the exams and announce the results before November 10.

“The remaining universities, including those in Mumbai, Pune and others, have demanded that the state government propose to the UGC to take the exams and announce the results before October 31,” Samant told reporters here.

The universities asked the state government to hold the meeting of the state disaster management authority (SDMA) under the leadership of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to send a request to the UGC in this regard, the minister said, adding that the meeting is expected. from SDMA on Wednesday.

On how to conduct the exams, the minister said: “The vice-chancellors have suggested three ways to take the exams with assignment options or open book or online.

They have looked for a day to know how these exams will be carried out ”.

In keeping with UGC guidelines, the Supreme Court held last week that no state and university can promote students in the final year / semester without taking exams, observing performance on such exams is a “reflection of the competence” of students.
