New Delhi:
Supreme Court Justice UU Lalit recused himself on Monday from hearing allegations seeking action against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy for leveling the charges against the judiciary.
“I am having difficulties. As a lawyer, I had represented one of the parties. I will pass an order for it to be included in court without me,” Judge Lalit said.
A bench made up of Judges UU Lalit, Vineet Saran and S Ravindra Bhat was going to hear three petitions seeking various reliefs against Reddy.
The allegations alleged that Mr. Reddy not only wrote a letter to Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde leveling the allegations against the judiciary, but also held a press conference in which false statements were made.
In an unprecedented move, Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister had written to the CJI on October 6 alleging that the Andhra Pradesh High Court was being used to “destabilize and overthrow my democratically elected government.”
The three separate petitions were submitted by advocates GS Mani, Sunil Kumar Singh, and the Anti-Corruption Council of India Trust.
