Union Minister Piyush Goyal receives an additional post from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution following the death of Ram Vilas Paswan.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal was assigned the additional post of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on Friday. The additional position was imposed upon him following the death of the founder and union minister of the Lok Janashakti Party (LJP), Ram Vilas Paswan.

Goyal currently serves as Minister of Railways and Minister of Commerce and Industry in the NDA-led government.

Ram Vilas Paswan: socialist icon, consummate politician

Ram Vilas Paswan was hospitalized for the past few weeks and passed away on Thursday night at the age of 74 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He was elected to Lok Sabha eight times and also held the record for winning with high margins from his Hajipur constituency.

Politicians from all parties expressed their grief upon receiving the news of Paswan’s death.
