NEW DELHI: Union Human Resources Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal congratulated the IIT Delhi team of scientists involved in developing the Covid-19 probe-free real-time PCR diagnostic kit.
Amit Khare, secretary, MHRD; Ramgopal Rao, director, IIT-Delhi, and a team of IIT scientists led by Professor Vivekananad Perumal and Professor Manoj Menon were present at the meeting.
Pokhriyal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited scientists, students and researchers to fight Covid-19 and, in response to this wake-up call, all major institutions under the ministry of human resource development came to the forefront and They have done a commendable job and are doing their utmost to combat the pandemic situation.
The minister added that “our prime minister always expects us to develop our own strengths and not be dependent on the world. So, given the capacity and high research standards at our institutes, especially the IITs, meetings were held with IITs from the start of the pandemic, to intensify their research and innovation initiatives regarding Covid-19. ”
While congratulating the team of scientists, Pokhriyal said that the MHRD prides itself on all its institutions, researchers, academics, faculty members and students who work tirelessly at the time of total closure, to provide solutions to the problems arising from the outbreak of Covid-19 and that they face not only within the country but for all humanity.
The minister appreciated the efforts of IIT-Delhi to develop a test kit at a very low cost to the people of India. The kit will not only enhance health services but will also support the government in times of crisis. He congratulated the researchers at the IIT-Delhi Kusuma School of Biological Sciences (KSBS), who have developed a screening test for Covid-19 that has now been approved by ICMR.
Pokhriyal said that the MHRD will provide all possible assistance to institutions for their research initiatives. He said a project like this is in line with the government’s “Make in India” initiative.
