Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap on Sunday denied all allegations of sexual assault made against him by actress Payal Ghosh, tweeting: “All I want to say is that all allegations are unfounded.” Payal Ghosh, who has worked in films such as Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi and Prayanam, recently accused the 48-year-old filmmaker of imposing on her in an interview with ABN Telugu. However, Anurag Kashyap dismissed the accusations in a series of tweets, describing them as “an attempt to silence him.” In a long Hindi thread, Anurag Kashyap wrote: “Wow, it took you so long to try to silence me. Never mind … in an attempt to silence me, you have dragged another woman into this, despite being a woman. Please “Stay on the edge, ma’am. All I’m saying is that all the accusations are unfounded.”
Payal Ghosh, in the aforementioned interview, also claimed that after sexually harassing her, Anurag Kashyap had told her that “it’s okay” because other actresses he has worked with like Huma Qureshi (Gangs of Wasseypur) and Mahi Gill (Dev D) “are just a phone call away.” Reacting to the accusation, the filmmaker wrote in his tweet: “Be it my first or second wife, or a girlfriend … or all those actresses who worked with me … or all those colleagues who have been working with me. .. I do not indulge in such behavior in public or otherwise. I also do not tolerate that behavior. Rest, whatever happens … let’s see. In the video you can imagine how true the accusations are … otherwise just sweetheart and good wishes to you Apologies for answering your accusations in English in Hindi. “
In his latest tweet, Anurag Kashyap also wrote that he has received several phone calls, asking him not to respond to the accusations.

Payal Ghosh, who made his Bollywood debut with the 2017 film Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi, co-starring Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal, also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help her. She tweeted on Saturday: “Anurag Kashyap has imposed himself on me and very badly. Narendra Modi ji, please take action and let the country see the devil behind this creative guy. I am aware that he may harm me and my safety is at risk … help please! “

In reaction to Payal Ghosh’s tweet, the president of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Rekha Sharma, asked the actress to send them a detailed complaint on the matter and assured her that the commission will study the matter.
Anurag Kashyap is known for directing and producing many critically acclaimed films such as Bands of Wasseypur, Queen, Drowned, Gulaal, and Masaan. Earlier in 2018, when director Vikas Bahl’s name was implicated in India’s #MeToo movement, Anurag Kashyap, who co-founded the Phantom Films production house with Vikas Bahl, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena, dissolved the production house. Following the #MeToo accusations against Vikas Bahl, Mr. Kashyap and Mr. Motwane had issued separate statements, in which they had stated that they believed that Mr. Bahl was guilty of the accusations made against him.
Various names from the film industry have been implicated in India’s #MeToo movement, including Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, Subhash Ghai, Sajid Khan, Anu Malik, and others.
