“Students and the public are informed that currently 24 self-proclaimed and unrecognized institutions are operating in contravention of the UGC Act, which have been declared bogus universities and are not authorized to confer any degrees,” said UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain.
Aspiring students are advised not to pursue higher education courses with such self-styled vishwavidyalaya / universities. Currently, there are 24 bogus self-styled / Vishwavidyalayas universities on the Commission’s records that are operating in contravention of the provisions of the UGC Act of 1956, UGC further stated.
Most of these universities are from Delhi (7) and Uttar Pradesh (8).

“With regard to Bharitya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow, the matter is under trial before the Lucknow District Judge,” Jain said.
The notice further indicated that, under Section 23 of the UGC Act, the use of the word “University” by any institution other than a university established and recognized by UGC is prohibited.
